Pickups Now Available

Nordstrand pickups have been available for almost a year now and are quickly becoming respected for the great tones they produce. Join the growing community of players that appreciate what Nordstrand pickups have to offer.

Coming Soon!

A shiny new Nordstrand Pickups website. Also, I will soon have my dual coil, FatStack, and Big Singles available in Bartolini® sized plastic covers. The 5's will be P2 size and the 4's will be BC size.

____________

Pickups currently available:

The MM4.2 and MM4.3

This pickup is an accurate reproduction of an early pre Ernie Ball® pickup. It features Alnico V magnets and Heavy Forvar wire for an authentic punchy, growly, and inherently fat tone.

There will be two versions of the four string Music Man® style pickup. The MM4.2 is a two coil version that can be wired series, parallel, or single coil (split-able). The MM4.3 is a three coil pickup designed to drop into a Sterling or other 3 way switched installation. It has a dummy coil on the bottom for silent single coil mode.

Includes black cover.

Retail Price MM4.2 $129
Retail Price MM4.3 $169
____________
The MM5.2 and 5.3

These are essentially the same as the MM4.2 and4.3, but they come in several different flavors. The industry never really adapted a standard for this style pickup, and as a result we have at least three different spacing and cover combinations.

a) Soapbar shape with no ears and narrow spacing. These have a rectangular cover and narrow spacing that will work on original Music Man® five string basses.

b) Larger shape with ears and wide spacing. These will fit Lakland and other basses with wider spacing.

c) Larger shape with ears and narrow spacing. These will fit OLP® and other basses with narrow spacing.

Retail Price MM5.2 $139
Retail Price MM5.3 $179
____________
The NJ4:

This is a vintage style single coil pickup made with 60's era correct formvar wire and Alnico V magnets. These pickups have a very even and full sound with that snap and grind associated with the great basses of that time.

Includes black covers.

Retail Price $189/set
____________
The NJ4SE:

This is a split hum cancelling version of the J style pickup that will deliver a very punchy and growly tone with absolutely no 60 cycle hum. It's a very modern take on a very vintage tone.

Includes black covers.

Retail Price $275/set
____________
The NP4:

This is a faithful reproduction of one of the most famous pickups in the world. It will give a very big and full tone with the slightly hollow grind that the original's are known for.

Includes black covers.

Retail Price $139
____________
The NJ5:

Five string single coil pickups in the same style as the NJ4. Featuring Alnico V magnets and the same windings pattern as the four, these are very fat sounding with plenty of growl and bark.

Includes closed black covers.

Retail Price $229/set
____________
The NJ5F:

These are Fender Jazz 5® replacement pickups. They will fit into your existing covers and make your 5 string Fender® come to life. They are based on the same formula that makes my NJ4 pickups sound so good: Alnivo V magnets and Heavy Formvar 42 gauge wire wound in a simulated hand pattern. They have a nice growly bridge pickup tone, a big full neck pickup tone and a huge deep earth shaking tone with both pickups on. They will definitely make your bass sound better!

Covers not included.

Retail Price $219/set
____________
Notes about how these pickups are made:

It has long been argued that hand wound pickups sound better than machine wound pickups. Something called the skin effect of the random winding pattern lowers the resonant peak of the pickup resulting in a more pleasing high end and a vintage warmth. Not too long ago I was very lucky to be able to purchase a very high tech Tanac computer controlled winding machine. This machine allows me to program every wind of wire in the coil. I have taken advantage of the power of this level of control and programmed a simulated hand wind pattern for my replacement pickups. This allows me to repeat, coil after coil, the same warm vintage sound of a true hand wound coil without having to actually wind it by hand. I get the convenience of making identical pickups and the player gets the reassurance that the next pickup sold will sound like the last pickup sold.
